Ah yes, the mimic, the worlds most unassuming and terrible monster: a box with teeth. Mimics, technically, are classified as a form of cave algae that grow in various environments that have been undisturbed for long periods of time. They prefer stone to put down their roots rather than earth and so are very rarely found outside of old ruins. Their tough wooden exterior mimics that of a treasure chest as a lure to its favorite snack: adventurers. Notorious for being the most opportunistic monster, this semi-sentient toothy friend enjoys munching on adventurers whenever it can get them. Due to their diet, mimics will sometimes have a bit of treasure hidden inside their mouths, which opportunistic slimes like Squish may sometimes find!

Mimics were the first monster that we designed after Squish, and so have a special place in our hearts. The mimics classification was something that we've been thinking of for a while, not because it really matters, but because its a fun thing to think about. We've been working on the various designs of monsters and putting a lot of thought into every detail, so we're always grateful that the mimic design came around as a stroke of creativity, and hasn't changed much since it was made a year ago.
