Meet the Cast: Wyrm

Writer: turtleferriesstudioturtleferriesstudio

The wyrm, the distant cousin thrice removed of the noble dragon. Or that's what is thought at least. After hundreds of years of evolution its anyone's guess how this creature really developed but one things for sure, its claws certainly look dragon-like! The Wyrm has thick scales along its body to protect it from predators and adventurous heroes that may risk a poke at it. It uses long clawed hands like shovels to dig through the earth as easily as a fish swims through water. It also uses them to rake across anyone that pokes them. They are notorious for being territorial yet are non-confrontational until they are backed into a corner. They much prefer avoiding nasty adventurers come to take their treasure...if they had any treasure. Often times the "treasure hordes" of these distant relatives of dragons are made up of dull clutter and assorted bits of rocks; occasionally a rare shiny spoon or a sparkly stone. The wyrm spends most of its days digging intricate tunnels through the floors of old ruins and wandering around the old halls, probably imagining that it is their castle now.

As we've written in a previous post about the wyrm, it is a monster, one of our first. we changed its concept from its name origin into our own unique creation. It still retains some of the traditional wyrm associations but we gave it a new skin, and a new purpose. We really worked hard to make the design from something that might be associated with nightmares (scaly plates, clawed arms, no legs, fishlike lizard face) to something mildly cute.

If you can guess one of the real life animals that went into the design of the wyrm, send us an email through our contact form and we'll send you a sneak peek of some concept art we have in the making if you guess right!
